A B O U T

The Miserable Brilliance Ensemble was established in 2012 by a group of Alumni actors, led by Anthony Montes at the New York Film Academy in Los Angeles. The ensemble consists of members from all over the world with a vast array of knowledge and experience.

MBE was created out of a mutual passion for the art of acting, and a drive within the members to create, produce & direct their own work. From the very beginning, Artistic Director Anthony Montes has urged the ensemble to always write their own work. Their weekly rehearsals became a place for new creative writing and it wasn't long before their first production, Bench Stories saw the stage. By their second production, Stories on the Rocks, it was safe to say that they had found their niche.

We pride ourselves on being creatives who have decided to take charge of our futures, and leave nothing to chance.  Our work is raw, absurd, dark, funny and heartfelt.

Being based in the heart of the filmmaking industry, MBE finds joy in taking cinema to stage, and making films out of their stage work. A perfect example is the one-act play "The Dying Butcher, the Prostitute and the Fisherman", written by company member Sam LaFrance. The play was made into a short film and screened at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival.
